Dr. Tatiana Shavrina
Advancing Scientific Research with AI Research Agents
Abstract: AI research agents are rapidly transforming scientific discovery by automating complex research workflows. This talk surveys recent advances in frontier agentic systems, LLM-based research assistants, and evaluation benchmarks. We will examine agent performance across the scientific lifecycle—from hypothesis generation to experimentation and refinement—and discuss the remaining challenges toward truly autonomous scientific discovery.
Bio: Tatiana Shavrina is the Research Scientist Manager at FAIR, Meta SuperIntelligence Labs, and a researcher specializing in large language models, AI Research Agents, and AI evaluation. She has been leading research on multilingual foundation models, AI agents, and benchmark design, with over 100 publications spanning NLP, machine learning, and AI safety.

Dr. Peter Sjöstedt-Hughes
Modalities of AI Consciousness
Abstract: In this talk, philosopher Peter Sjöstedt-Hughes considers the possibilities of AI and machine consciousness through the lens of an array of deeper metaphysical theories of mind. Such consideration spans centuries-long thought on such matters, involving the political, historical presuppositions that have informed the debate. The nature of consciousness, and its relation to nature, remains an open question, and the issue of whether AI could be conscious adds to this larger issue.
Bio: Dr Peter Sjöstedt-Hughes is a Philosopher of Mind and Metaphysics who specializes in fields pertaining to altered states of consciousness through thinkers such as Whitehead, Spinoza, Nietzsche, and Bergson. Peter is a lecturer at The University of Exeter and author of a number of texts, including Bloomsbury’s forthcoming book, The Psychedelics Manual: Metaphysics and Meaning. As well as the TEDx Talker on ‘psychedelics and consciousness’, and speaker on the BBC’s show ‘The Trip’, Peter is an inspiration to the recreation of inhuman philosopher Marvel Superhero, Karnak. www.philosopher.eu

Irving J., Good defines Superintelligence in 1965 as: "Let an ultraintelligent machine be defined as a machine that can far surpass all the intellectual activities of any man however clever." The recent developments in Neural Networks with Transformers and Large Language Models are showing us glimpses of what Superintelligence is capable of, affecting every field of knowledge and research. It is essential to prepare as well as understand the foundations of such machines. The topic of Superintelligence is interdisciplinary in nature.
